Nanking cherry
NANKING CHERRY – native to China, grown in Lithuania since 1950s. It is a bush of approximately 2 m height, which starts to bear fruits after three years, gives harvest annually and abundantly. Fruits are approximately of 1.5 - 2 g weight, round, of bright red colour, the pulp is juicy, sweet, little tangy. The peduncle is short, holds strongly on the bush, does not crumble, can hold up to one month. Fruits ripen around the middle of July; have to be consumed quickly after picking. They can be consumed raw or processed especially for a fine jam of specific taste. The plant is moderately winter enduring, resistant to diseases, blooms early.
